Job Description

The Fish Health Technician is responsible for supporting fish health monitoring, laboratory analyses, and biosecurity oversight across hatchery, nursery, and grow-out operations. This role involves collecting and analyzing samples, assisting with health trials, monitoring sex ratios, and ensuring accurate data reporting to support decision-making and improve overall farm performance.

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries & Aquaculture, Veterinary Medicine, Zoology, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in aquaculture, laboratory work, or fish health is advantageous.
  • Basic knowledge of fish health, biosecurity practices, and sampling techniques.

Responsibilities

Fish Health Sampling & Analysis

  • Collect fish samples from hatchery, nursery, and grow-out stages following established protocols.
  • Perform health assessments, including external and internal examinations.
  • Record and analyze fish health indicators, assisting in identifying abnormalities.
  • Support testing and monitoring of sex ratios and accurately report findings.

Support Health Trials

  • Assist in implementing fish health and prophylactic trials.
  • Support data collection, sampling, and compliance with trial protocols.
  • Ensure proper handling, documentation, and storage of trial samples and results.

Biosecurity Monitoring

  • Assess and report biosecurity risks or non-compliance across farm operations.
  • Assist in implementing biosecurity procedures and corrective actions.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Accurately record data into approved systems and templates.
  • Prepare routine summaries and reports for review by the R&D Manager.
  • Maintain organized, traceable records for audits and reference purposes.

Laboratory Housekeeping & Support

  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety in the laboratory.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of samples and materials.
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment in good working order.
