Description
Job Overview
through its Uganda Country Office is inviting qualified experts to design, develop, and operationalize a national Forest Landscape Restoration Measurement, Reporting, and Verification system for Uganda.
This role focuses on building a national level digital and technical system that tracks forest restoration progress, carbon impact, and environmental outcomes across Uganda. In simple terms, the work ensures that Uganda can measure how forests are being restored, how much carbon is stored, and whether national climate goals are being achieved.
You will work with government agencies, environmental experts, and development partners to design a system that collects data, processes information, and produces reliable reports for decision making.
The role is highly technical and strategic. It supports climate action, environmental planning, and national reporting obligations under global climate agreements.
Key Responsibilities
Design a national MRV framework for forest landscape restoration activities in Uganda.
Develop tools and systems for collecting, storing, and analyzing environmental and forest data.
Work with government institutions to align the system with national climate and forestry policies.
Create reporting structures that track carbon storage, forest cover changes, and restoration progress.
Support the integration of satellite data, field data, and digital platforms for accurate monitoring.
Train technical teams and stakeholders on how to use the MRV system effectively.
Test and validate system performance to ensure accuracy and reliability of data outputs.
Prepare technical reports and documentation for government and development partners.
Support continuous improvement of the system based on feedback from users and field implementation.
Ensure compliance with international standards for climate reporting and forest monitoring.
Coordinate with multiple stakeholders including environmental agencies, researchers, and implementation partners.
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Climate Change, Geography, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Candidates should have strong experience in environmental monitoring, forest management, or climate data systems.
Experience in designing MRV systems, GIS platforms, or environmental data reporting tools is required.
Strong knowledge of forest landscape restoration concepts and carbon accounting is important.
Applicants should understand national and international climate reporting frameworks.
Experience working with government projects, NGOs, or international development agencies is an added advantage.
Strong technical skills in data systems, GIS tools, remote sensing, or environmental databases are required.
Candidates must demonstrate ability to manage multi stakeholder technical projects.
Good report writing, communication, and analytical skills are essential.
Salary Range (Expected Range)
Expected consultancy salary range is UGX 12,000,000 to UGX 25,000,000 per month depending on expertise, project scope, and international experience.
Rates may vary based on deliverables, contract duration, and technical specialization.
