Job Overview
through its Uganda Country Office is seeking a qualified consultant to review and improve the Uganda Forest Management Planning Guidelines.
This role focuses on strengthening how forests are planned, managed, and protected across Uganda. The consultant will assess existing guidelines, identify gaps, and recommend improvements that support sustainable forest use and climate goals.
In practical terms, you will work on national level documents that guide how forests are managed by government agencies, local authorities, and conservation partners. Your input will help ensure forest management aligns with climate change targets, restoration programs, and biodiversity protection efforts.
This is a technical advisory role that requires strong understanding of forestry policy, land use planning, and environmental governance in Uganda.
Key Responsibilities
Review existing Uganda Forest Management Planning Guidelines and identify gaps in structure, clarity, and implementation.
Assess alignment of the guidelines with national forestry policies and international environmental standards.
Analyze how current guidelines support forest conservation, restoration, and sustainable land use.
Engage with stakeholders including government agencies, forestry experts, and development partners to gather input.
Draft improved guideline content that strengthens forest planning processes and management practices.
Ensure the revised guidelines support climate change mitigation and forest landscape restoration goals.
Provide technical recommendations to improve forest governance and planning systems.
Prepare detailed reports explaining findings, revisions, and justification for proposed changes.
Validate revised content through consultation with relevant stakeholders.
Ensure the final document is practical, clear, and usable by forest management institutions in Uganda.
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Policy, or a related field.
Strong experience in forest governance, environmental policy development, or land use planning is required.
Candidates should have proven experience in reviewing or developing technical guidelines, policy documents, or national frameworks.
Good understanding of Uganda’s forestry sector and environmental laws is important.
Experience working with government institutions, NGOs, or international development organizations is required.
Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret technical and policy documents are essential.
Ability to write clear, structured, and practical technical reports is required.
Knowledge of forest landscape restoration, climate change adaptation, or biodiversity conservation is an added advantage.
Experience in stakeholder consultation processes will strengthen an application.
Salary Range (Expected Range)
Expected consultancy fee range is UGX 10,000,000 to UGX 22,000,000 depending on experience, technical depth, and assignment duration.
Final payment may vary based on deliverables and level of expertise required.
