- Job Overview
This role focuses on reducing electricity losses within the distribution network. You will track how electricity flows from the grid to customers and identify where losses occur due to theft, technical faults, or system inefficiencies.
In real work terms, you will study energy data, inspect field installations, and work with technical teams to fix problems that cause loss of electricity before it is billed. You will also support efforts to improve billing accuracy and protect company revenue.
Your work directly improves efficiency, reduces financial losses, and ensures customers are billed fairly based on actual electricity usage.
- Key Responsibilities
You will monitor electricity distribution data to detect energy losses across your assigned area. You will identify both technical losses like faulty equipment and non technical losses such as meter tampering or illegal connections.
You will use metering systems and data tools to analyze consumption patterns. You will identify unusual usage trends and flag areas that need investigation.
You will support the implementation of energy loss reduction strategies. This includes fixing faulty meters, reporting theft cases, and supporting system improvements.
You will work closely with technical teams to ensure maintenance activities reduce energy losses in the network.
You will conduct field inspections to verify meter accuracy and check for illegal connections or irregular usage.
You will maintain accurate records of all loss cases. You will document causes, locations, and actions taken to resolve issues.
You will prepare regular reports for senior officers showing loss levels, progress, and recommendations for improvement.
You will engage customers to educate them on energy conservation and correct usage of electricity.
You will investigate customer complaints related to high bills or unusual consumption. You will ensure accurate billing through proper verification.
You will coordinate with revenue protection teams to detect and prevent electricity theft.
You will ensure all activities follow company policies, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
You will stay updated on new technologies and methods used in energy loss detection and prevention.
- Requirements and Qualifications
You need a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
You need at least 4 years of experience in electricity distribution, energy management, or utility operations.
Experience in energy loss reduction or revenue protection is preferred.
You must understand how electrical distribution systems work, including metering and network operations.
You need strong data analysis skills to interpret usage patterns and detect losses.
You should be able to identify problems quickly and propose practical solutions.
You need strong attention to detail when monitoring energy data and field installations.
You must have good communication skills to report findings and engage customers.
You should be able to work with technical teams, revenue protection units, and operations staff.
You need knowledge of electricity regulations and standards in Uganda.
- Salary Range, Expected Range
UGX 3,500,000 to UGX 8,000,000 per month
Salary depends on experience, technical skills, and exposure to utility network operations.
