About the Role

The Engineering Manager for Cloud Engineering at LaunchDarkly plays a pivotal role in overseeing the foundational infrastructure that supports the company’s innovative products. Key Responsibilities

  • You will lead and mentor a skilled team of Cloud Engineers, setting clear expectations and providing ongoing coaching to enhance their professional growth.
  • Your primary responsibility will be to manage the operational integrity of LaunchDarkly’s cloud infrastructure, ensuring that incident responses and service-level objectives are met with utmost reliability.
  • Manage a comprehensive infrastructure insourcing program that spans multiple quarters, overseeing project sequencing, dependency management, and effective communication of milestones.
  • Guide your team in making informed technical decisions concerning AWS infrastructure, networking, Kubernetes, and compliance, ensuring all trade-offs are well understood.
  • Develop and implement automated solutions to streamline operational processes, enabling product engineering teams to interact with the infrastructure more independently.
  • Support migration efforts by providing best practices and enabling partner teams, while maintaining clear ownership and accountability.
  • Establish and promote team norms that encourage the use of AI-assisted engineering, focusing on reducing operational toil through innovative automation solutions.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, maintaining continuity and team morale during periods of change.
  • You will serve as a liaison between various engineering teams, ensuring that shared infrastructure goals and dependencies are effectively communicated and managed.
  • Regularly report on operational risks, resource needs, and project progress to senior engineering leadership and relevant stakeholders.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud engineering or related fields, with demonstrable expertise in managing cloud infrastructure.
  • You should possess strong leadership skills, with a proven track record of guiding technical teams to success in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with AWS services, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code methodologies is essential for this role.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery protocols and operational health monitoring will be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills are required to facilitate collaboration across various teams and ensure alignment on project goals.
