About the Role

The Field Agronomist at Agrovitor plays a crucial role in enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability by providing expert agronomic support to farmers in Wakiso. This full-time position involves hands-on work with local farmers, assessing crop health and soil conditions while recommending evidence-based solutions for improved performance. In the initial months, the Field Agronomist will immerse themselves in the local farming community, develop relationships with stakeholders, and begin conducting field assessments. As part of a dedicated team, this role is essential for translating scientific research into practical applications that benefit growers and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

Key Responsibilities

• The Field Agronomist will conduct regular field visits to evaluate the health of crops, analyze soil conditions, and assess irrigation practices to ensure optimal growth.
• They will recommend practical, science-backed interventions aimed at improving crop yields and enhancing sustainable farming techniques tailored to local conditions.
• Data collection and analysis are critical, as the Field Agronomist will be responsible for conducting on-farm trials and documenting the findings for ongoing improvement.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A strong foundation in Soil Science and Plant Nutrition is essential, with the ability to diagnose issues and suggest actionable interventions.
• The candidate must possess applied knowledge of Agriculture and Irrigation systems, demonstrating practical experience with crop management.
• Research skills are necessary, including the ability to design field trials and analyze data to provide meaningful recommendations.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Soil Science, or a closely related field is required for this position.
• Experience working in a field-based advisory or extension role, directly with farmers or agribusinesses, will be highly valued.
• The ideal candidate should possess clear communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts simply and effectively.
