Head of Finance & Operations — Uganda

About the Role

The Head of Finance & Operations at Educate! plays a crucial role in driving the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization. This position is essential in ensuring that financial processes align with Educate!’s mission of empowering youth across Africa. In the first few months, the selected candidate will focus on mastering the organization’s financial systems, understanding the intricacies of its operations, and collaborating with various teams to enhance financial reporting and management. This role offers the chance to lead impactful initiatives that will directly contribute to the scaling of youth employment solutions in Uganda and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the complete financial operations of Educate! in Uganda, ensuring that all processes run smoothly from transaction processing to ledger integrity.
• Deliver precise management accounts to the Managing Director and Global Finance team each month, providing variance analysis to inform strategic decisions.
• Manage cash flow effectively, forecast financial requirements, and proactively identify and mitigate any risks associated with foreign exchange exposure.
• Authorize payments and transactions in accordance with delegated authority, maintaining strict adherence to financial policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial best practices are adopted throughout the organization, enhancing operational effectiveness.
• Lead the financial planning process, including budgeting and forecasting, to align financial goals with Educate!’s strategic vision.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required, with a professional certification such as ACCA or CPA preferred.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in financial management, preferably within the non-profit or educational sectors.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, cash flow management, and budget development processes.
• Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and the ability to derive insights from financial data.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with financial modeling and forecasting tools is a plus.
