About Joint Effort to Save the Environment (JESE)
Joint Efforts to Save the Environment (JESE), is a national Non-Governmental Organisation
(NGO) established in 1993 with a desire to increase household food security, through sustainable agricultural production and livelihood improvement amongst the rural communities. Other JESE thematic areas of focus include Natural Resources Management, Governance and Energy, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Youth Skills Development. Our work spans 2 decades, operating in Western Uganda, Albertine region, and in Northern Uganda.
JESE in partnership with Iles De Paix (IDP) are implementing a 3 years project titled “Kulya Kurungi” in Kabarole District and Fort Portal City aimed at promoting agroecological vegetable production, engaging youth in agriculture and entrepreneurship as well as market access for agroecological produce with the ultimate goal to increase healthy, chemical-free vegetable production and improved farmer resilience to climate change.
The project initiated the development of WENZO Fresh aimed at promoting and marketing agroecologically/chemical free produced, safe and nutritious fresh vegetables from farmers supported under the Kulya Kurungi project. The initiative seeks to strengthen linkages between producers and markets while ensuring that consumers have reliable access to quality fresh and agroecologically produced vegetables.
To address this challenge, there is a need for a Production Coordinator who will coordinate and support farmers to plan production based on anticipated market demand and develop systems that allow for staggered planting and harvesting.
About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Production Coordinator to join our team. The overall purpose of the consultancy is to support WENZO Fresh to establish and maintain a well-coordinated production system that ensures continuous, reliable and predictable supply of quality vegetables to the market.
Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities
The Production Assistant will undertake the following activities:
a. Development of a Continuous Production System
The Production Coordinator will:
- Assess the current production arrangements and identify gaps affecting consistent vegetable supply.
- Identify priority vegetables required by WENZO Fresh and assess their production cycles.
- Develop crop production calendars indicating recommended planting, crop management and expected harvesting periods.
- Guide farmers on staggered planting, whereby the same crop is planted at different times to spread harvesting over an extended period.
- Develop a production schedule that considers crop maturity periods, market demand, available production capacity and seasonal conditions.
- Support farmers to plan production in batches rather than planting all crops at the same time.
- Recommend appropriate production intervals for different vegetable crops.
- Identify opportunities for irrigation and other climate-smart practices that can support production during periods of low rainfall.
- Regularly review production plans based on actual market demand and farmer capacity.
b. Production Tracking and Forecasting System
The Production Coordinator will develop and maintain a simple, user-friendly production tracking system.
The system should at least capture the following;

| Area planted | Land area under production |
| Planting date | Date crop was planted |
| Crop stage | Current stage of crop development |
| Expected harvest date | Anticipated date of first harvest |
| Expected production | Estimated quantity available |
| Harvest frequency | Expected frequency of harvesting |
| Actual harvest | Quantity harvested |
| Quantity supplied | Quantity delivered to WENZO Fresh |
| Quantity remaining | Estimated balance available |
| Production risks | Pest, disease, weather or other risks |
The tracking system will be maintained using Google Sheets or KoboToolbox
