Role Purpose
The Program Manager – Special Projects serves as an entrepreneurial “Country Lead” responsible for developing and launching new business initiatives within the energy sector. This role oversees the full lifecycle of new ventures—from validating business ideas and identifying target customer segments to executing market entry and scaling operations. You will play a key role in ensuring strong product-market fit before expanding across target regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Research & Strategy: Identify and assess target customer groups and market opportunities within the distributed energy sector in Africa.
  • Business Case Development: Prepare and present solid financial and operational plans for new energy solutions.
  • Product Development & Testing: Work closely with technical teams to design and refine products based on market needs and feedback.
  • Commercial Execution: Lead pilot programs, drive customer acquisition, and manage early-stage revenue generation.
  • Project Management: Plan, execute, and track project activities to ensure timely delivery of milestones.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with regulators, partners, and internal teams to address challenges and achieve objectives.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation and provide regular updates on project progress and market insights.

Experience

  • 4–5 years of relevant experience in the distributed energy sector (e.g., solar, mini-grids, or energy storage).
  • Proven experience working with reputable companies in the energy industry is an added advantage.
  • Experience in launching and developing new business lines, including market entry and achieving product-market fit.
  • Exposure to structured, fast-growing African markets is preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Additional certifications in Renewable Energy, Project Management, or Finance are an added advantage.
