As a Secondary English and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Teacher at Kampala International School Uganda (KISU), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational journey of students aged 11 to 18. This position is critical in fostering a deep appreciation for literature and critical thinking, guiding students through the complexities of language and knowledge. In your first few months, you will immerse yourself in the school’s dynamic learning environment, collaborating with fellow educators to create engaging lesson plans that cater to diverse learning needs. Key Responsibilities
You will design and implement comprehensive lesson plans for Key Stage 3, Cambridge IGCSE, and the IB Diploma Programme, ensuring alignment with the British National Curriculum.
Deliver engaging lessons in English Language and Literature, fostering students’ analytical and writing skills through diverse teaching methods.
Teach the IB Diploma Programme Theory of Knowledge (TOK), encouraging students to critically examine the nature of knowledge and its various forms.
Assess and evaluate student performance through various assessments, providing constructive feedback to support their academic growth.
Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects that enrich the learning experience and encourage critical thinking across subjects.
Engage with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and promote a supportive educational community.
Requirements & Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in English, English Literature, or a related field is required to ensure a strong foundational knowledge.
Qualified Teacher Status (such as PGCE or PGDE) is essential for this teaching role.
At least three years of secondary school teaching experience is expected to demonstrate proven instructional effectiveness.
Thorough understanding of the British National Curriculum, Cambridge IGCSE English, and the IB Diploma Programme English curriculum is necessary for effective teaching.
Experience in teaching TOK or a willingness to engage with its unique curriculum is highly desirable for this position.
