About the Role

The Specialty Doctor in Elderly Care Medicine plays a vital role in the Department of Medicine for the Elderly, which has undergone significant innovations to enhance care services for older adults. In the initial months, the appointee will engage in ward rounds, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, and contribute to patient management, all while learning the operational dynamics of the department. Key Responsibilities

• The doctor will conduct specialty ward rounds and outpatient clinics focused on movement disorders, assessing patient needs and planning appropriate interventions.
• Active involvement in patient management will be expected, allowing for hands-on decision-making regarding care strategies.
• Regular ward rounds will be conducted to identify and address patient issues, facilitating joint decision-making in care management.
• Collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams will be essential to ensure cohesive care delivery and support for patients and families.
• Implementing a model of care that emphasizes the roles of the multi-disciplinary team, patients, and their families will be a priority.
• Communication with clinical colleagues across the Health Board will be maintained to optimize the treatment of patients and utilize departmental resources effectively.
• Participation in the Health Board’s Risk Management process, Clinical Audit, and other clinical governance initiatives will be required to uphold standards of care.
• In collaboration with senior medical staff, the doctor will ensure the department operates in accordance with the Health Board’s strategic plan and operational policies.
• Engagement in a structured training and education program tailored for multi-disciplinary collaboration will be an integral part of the role.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A medical degree and relevant postgraduate qualifications are essential for this position, along with a license to practice in Uganda.
• Experience in elderly care or geriatric medicine will be highly advantageous.
