Job Summary
The Pump Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the main water pumps to ensure a continuous and reliable water supply to hatchery ponds, operational systems, and other facility areas.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Water Engineering, Plumbing, Electrical, or related fields.
- Practical experience in pump operation and water management.
- Knowledge of pump systems, plumbing, and basic hydraulics.
- Ability to identify mechanical faults and perform minor troubleshooting.
- Understanding of aquaculture water requirements is a plus.
- Capable of working outdoors and in physically demanding conditions.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain pumps, valves, and related systems according to supply schedules.
- Ensure adequate water flow and pressure to hatchery ponds and operational areas.
- Monitor pump performance, including motor temperature, pressure, and vibrations.
- Coordinate with water supply and control technicians to maintain consistent water supply.
- Conduct daily inspections of pumps, suction lines, discharge pipes, and valves.
- Work closely with Hatchery and Engineering teams to optimize water supply and maintenance.
- Implement and follow all maintenance schedules for main pumps.
- Record and report pump operations and incidents accurately.
- Promote water conservation measures in line with sustainability practices.
- Adhere to electrical and mechanical safety protocols when operating equipment.
- Report breakdowns and assist with minor troubleshooting as needed.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the line manager.
