About the Role

The EU Delegation to Uganda is offering an exciting funded traineeship opportunity for young graduates within its Political Press and Information (PPI) Section. This position is designed for individuals eager to delve into international relations and the complexities of diplomatic missions. As a trainee, you will gain firsthand experience in how the EU represents its interests and values in Uganda, providing vital support to various initiatives and programs. The role will involve a blend of research, analysis, and direct involvement in communication activities, ensuring you develop a comprehensive understanding of the EU-Uganda partnership. Throughout the first few months, you will be guided by experienced professionals, allowing you to build a strong foundation in political analysis and diplomatic communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will conduct thorough research on the collaboration between the EU and Uganda, contributing to a better understanding of shared objectives and challenges.
  • Your role will involve drafting analytical reports and briefing documents that highlight political cooperation and relevant issues affecting bilateral relations.
  • Under the supervision of senior staff, you will assist in coordinating and consolidating data from EU Member States, ensuring accurate and comprehensive information management.
  • You will play a crucial part in preparing events organized by the Delegation, providing logistical support and contributing to the overall success of these initiatives.
  • Participation in meetings and events will be part of your responsibilities, where you will prepare detailed reports summarizing discussions and outcomes.
  • Your engagement with youth initiatives will help promote the EU’s goals and values among younger generations in Uganda, fostering a culture of collaboration and engagement.
  • Assist with communication and visibility activities, ensuring that the EU’s presence in Uganda is well-represented across various platforms.
  • Maintain and organize archival records related to EU-Uganda cooperation, ensuring that historical documentation is preserved and accessible for future reference.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Applicants must reside in Uganda, considering local health and security conditions, as only local candidates will be considered.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in political science, social science, economics, communications, or a related field is essential to qualify for this traineeship.
  • Strong proficiency in both spoken and written English is required, as communication is a key aspect of this role.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated, eager to learn, and capable of functioning effectively in a multicultural team environment.
  • Demonstrated research, writing, and analytical skills are crucial for success in this position.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is expected for daily tasks and reporting.
  • While prior professional experience is not required, a keen interest in international relations and development cooperation is highly desirable.
