About the Role

The Senior Operations Manager position at a luxurious boutique hotel in Kampala is a pivotal role that requires a seasoned professional to ensure the seamless operation of the property. This position exists to enhance guest experiences while maintaining high service standards across all departments, including rooms, food and beverage, and events. In the first few months, you will immerse yourself in the hotel’s operations, working closely with a dedicated team of approximately 30 staff members. Your hands-on approach will be crucial as you lead by example, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability within the team.

Key Responsibilities

• You will oversee the daily operations of the hotel, ensuring that all departments, including accommodations, dining, and guest services, function harmoniously to provide an exceptional experience for our guests.
• Your leadership will be vital as you manage and support a diverse team of approximately 30 staff members, holding them accountable for their roles and encouraging their professional development.
• Maintaining high service and operational standards will be a core responsibility, as you strive to create an environment where both guests and employees feel valued and engaged.
• You will ensure that the three food and beverage outlets operate smoothly and consistently deliver high-quality service, contributing to the overall guest satisfaction.
• Monitoring and managing costs, stock levels, staffing requirements, and general operational performance will be essential in achieving financial objectives and maintaining a profitable operation.
• Quickly identifying operational issues and implementing practical solutions will be critical to maintaining the hotel’s reputation for excellence.
• Your collaboration with the hotel owners will involve providing comprehensive operational reports and insights, ensuring transparency and alignment with the hotel’s objectives.
• Remaining highly visible and engaged with both guests and staff will enhance the hotel’s atmosphere, fostering a strong community and enhancing guest loyalty.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Applicants should possess solid experience in senior hotel operations, preferably within a boutique or luxury setting, to ensure they can effectively manage the unique challenges of this role.
• A strong working knowledge of various hotel operations, including room management, food and beverage services, guest relations, and event coordination, is essential.
• The ideal candidate will be a confident and practical manager who thrives in a hands-on environment, leading from the floor rather than behind a desk.
• Proficiency in managing multiple operational areas simultaneously is necessary to maintain efficiency and guest satisfaction across the hotel.
• Good financial acumen and administrative skills are required to effectively monitor budgets and operational expenditures.
• A calm, firm, and fair leadership style will help in building a motivated and high-performing team.
• Candidates must be willing to relocate to Kampala and be available to start immediately, with openness to applicants of all nationalities.
