About the Role

The Field Sales Agronomist position at AgriFarm Uganda is a pivotal role that blends technical agronomy expertise with a focus on sales to enhance agricultural productivity across the country. This position is essential for driving the adoption of high-quality agro-input products among farmers, agro-dealers, and cooperatives, thereby contributing to improved food security and rural livelihoods. In the initial months, you will engage directly with farmers, providing them with the necessary support and guidance to optimize their crop yields. This hands-on experience not only aids in developing your agronomic knowledge but also builds valuable relationships within the agricultural community.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will conduct regular field visits to both farms and agro-dealer outlets, actively promoting AgriFarm Uganda’s diverse product range, which includes seeds, fertilizers, and crop protection solutions.
  • Providing technical advice to farmers will be a core responsibility, ensuring they understand the correct application methods, timing, and best agronomic practices to maximize their yields and profitability.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including lead farmers, village agents, and agricultural cooperatives, will be crucial for successful product adoption.
  • You will monitor competitor activities and market trends, offering valuable feedback to the sales and marketing team to inform strategic planning and positioning.
  • Achieving sales targets will require effective territory management and innovative customer engagement strategies to drive product sales.
  • Organizing and participating in farmer training sessions, demonstration plots, and field days will be essential to showcasing product effectiveness and educating farmers.
  • Collecting and reporting critical field data, such as crop conditions, pest outbreaks, and farmer feedback, will assist in the ongoing development and improvement of AgriFarm’s products.
  • Ensuring the timely collection of payments and accurate maintenance of sales records will be necessary to uphold financial integrity.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A diploma or bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or a closely related field from a recognized institution is essential for this role.
  • Applicants should possess a minimum of three years of proven sales experience in the agro-inputs sector, specifically with fertilizers, seeds, or crop protection products in Uganda or comparable markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information clearly to farmers, who may have varying levels of education and experience, is critical for success.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently while managing a sales territory with minimal supervision are required.
  • A valid motorcycle riding permit and a willingness to travel extensively across rural and remote areas of Uganda are necessary to fulfill job responsibilities effectively.
  • Experience working with seed companies, fertilizer manufacturers, or agricultural NGOs in a field-based role will be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Ugandan agro-ecological zones and major crops such as maize, beans, cassava, coffee, and horticultural produce is desirable.
