About the Role

The Livelihoods & Agriculture Specialist position at Suyana Foundation is a pivotal role aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of agriculture and livelihoods initiatives in Uganda. This position is not just about implementing programs; it is about fostering sustainable community development that aligns with national priorities and market dynamics. In the first few months, you will engage closely with local partners and stakeholders, gaining a deep understanding of their needs while contributing to program design and capacity building. This role provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of agriculture, health, and education, making a tangible difference in the lives of communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with implementing partners to design and execute sustainable agriculture and livelihood programs that meet both local needs and national agricultural priorities.
  • Conduct regular field visits to assess program implementation, ensuring that all initiatives align with Suyana’s integrated development approach and provide clear benefits to local communities.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to partners on best practices in agriculture, focusing on innovative approaches that enhance productivity and sustainability.
  • Facilitate capacity-building workshops for local partners, empowering them with the skills and knowledge necessary for effective program management and implementation.
  • Engage with various stakeholders, including farmers, cooperatives, and local authorities, to promote collaboration and share insights that drive program improvement.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, utilizing data to inform decision-making and guide future initiatives, ensuring continuous learning and adaptation within the organization.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, or a related field; a Master’s degree is an added advantage.
  • At least 3-5 years of professional experience in agriculture, livelihoods, or rural development, with a strong understanding of local agricultural systems.
  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including NGOs, government agencies, and community groups.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in monitoring and evaluation practices to assess program effectiveness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information in an approachable manner.
