About the Role
The Value Chain Manager at GOAL plays a crucial role in enhancing the livelihoods of vulnerable communities in Uganda, particularly in the Soroti region. This position is essential as it focuses on developing market-based systems that improve agricultural outputs and ensure sustainability. In the initial months, the selected candidate will work closely with local stakeholders, assess existing value chains, and develop strategies that align with the organization’s mission. This role combines technical oversight with community engagement, allowing for immediate impact on the ground.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the assessment of local value chains by gathering data to identify opportunities for enhancing agricultural productivity and market access.
- Develop and implement tailored strategies that promote the growth of non-timber forest products (NTFP) and other agricultural commodities.
- Coordinate training sessions for farmers and local entrepreneurs to build capacity in best practices for production, processing, and marketing.
- Oversee the work of NTFP Value Chain Consultants, ensuring they provide quality technical support and advice to beneficiaries.
- Establish partnerships with local organizations, government bodies, and private sector players to create a robust support network for value chain development.
- Monitor and evaluate project outcomes, providing regular reports to the Project Coordinator and adjusting strategies based on feedback and results.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in value chain development, agricultural economics, or a related field is essential for this role.
- A degree in Agricultural Science, Development Studies, or a related discipline is required, with a preference for advanced degrees.
- Strong analytical skills are necessary to assess market opportunities and challenges within the agricultural sector.
- Proven experience in project management, including planning, implementation, and monitoring of development projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including local communities and government officials.
