The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized UN agency that leads international efforts to fight hunger, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture and natural resource management worldwide. In Uganda, FAO works closely with government institutions, local communities, and development partners to implement programs that strengthen food security, protect the environment, and support sustainable livelihoods. Its projects focus on areas such as climate change adaptation, forestry conservation, sustainable land use, and climate smart agriculture. FAO plays a key role in supporting Uganda’s efforts to reduce deforestation, improve forest governance, and promote environmental sustainability through large scale programs funded by global partners such as the Green Climate Fund. These initiatives help communities adapt to climate change while protecting natural ecosystems and improving agricultural productivity. The working environment at FAO is highly professional, structured, and internationally driven. Staff work in multidisciplinary teams that include government officials, technical experts, and international consultants. The organization emphasizes accountability, technical excellence, and strong collaboration across sectors.
