The National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) is Uganda’s leading public agricultural research institution responsible for providing strategic direction, coordination, and oversight of agricultural research activities across the country. Established under the National Agricultural Research Act, 2005, NARO works to generate and promote innovative agricultural technologies, knowledge, and solutions that improve productivity, food security, and sustainable development.
NARO operates through a network of Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARIs) and collaborates with government agencies, researchers, farmers, and development partners to address agricultural challenges through scientific research and innovation. The organisation focuses on crop improvement, livestock development, fisheries, natural resource management, climate resilience, and the application of modern technologies to transform Uganda’s agricultural sector.
