The Country-Specific Program Manager for Uganda plays a critical role in leading infectious disease surveillance and research initiatives under the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in collaboration with Labyrinth Global Health. This position is essential for enhancing health security in Uganda by ensuring that funded projects are executed effectively and in alignment with national health objectives. In your first few months, you will engage with local stakeholders, manage project logistics, and oversee the coordination of surveillance activities, setting the foundation for impactful health interventions.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the primary in-country manager for WRAIR-Africa projects, ensuring that all surveillance and research activities are executed in compliance with established protocols and timelines.
Collaborate with various in-country partners, such as the Ministries of Health and local research institutions, to facilitate the implementation of infectious disease surveillance strategies.
Monitor and evaluate project performance against budgetary and scheduling benchmarks, providing regular updates to the Senior Program Manager and the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR).
Oversee logistical arrangements, including staffing, training, and property management to ensure optimal operational efficiency at project sites in Uganda.
Support the establishment and maintenance of sentinel surveillance sites across Uganda, working closely with the Surveillance Network Clinical Coordinator to ensure effective data collection.
Manage the logistics for personnel and materials, including travel and clearance processes within Uganda and across the broader area of responsibility.
Requirements & Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in public health, international development, or a related field is required, with a preference for advanced degrees.
At least 5 years of experience in program management, particularly within the health sector, preferably focusing on infectious diseases.
Strong understanding of Uganda’s health infrastructure and experience working with local governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with strong communication skills to effectively liaise with diverse stakeholders.
