About the Role

The Electrical Engineer position at University Research Co., LLC (URC) plays a critical role in enhancing the healthcare infrastructure in Uganda. This role is pivotal in a project aimed at ensuring that health facilities have access to reliable and sustainable energy sources, which is essential for improving service delivery in health systems. In the initial months, the engineer will engage in project planning, design, and coordination of energy systems, ensuring they align with the specific needs of health facilities. Collaboration with various stakeholders will be key, providing the engineer with a unique opportunity to impact public health positively.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Electrical Engineer will oversee the planning and design of sustainable energy solutions tailored for health facilities, ensuring they meet the required safety and efficiency standards.
  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate existing electrical systems and recommend necessary upgrades to enhance energy reliability.
  • Coordinate with contractors during the installation and commissioning phases to guarantee adherence to project specifications and timelines.
  • Implement remote monitoring systems that track energy performance and assist in preventive maintenance of electrical installations.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to local staff and stakeholders on the operation and maintenance of installed energy systems.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing project progress, challenges, and recommendations for future improvements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is essential for this role.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in projects related to energy solutions for health or public infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software and tools, along with a strong understanding of energy systems and sustainability practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
