About the Role

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor at Ubuntu Movers plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and safety of the company’s fleet of vehicles, which are essential for its logistics and transport operations. This position is vital for maintaining the operational efficiency that supports timely deliveries and customer satisfaction. In the first few months, the supervisor will focus on understanding the current fleet condition, implementing maintenance schedules, and building a rapport with the maintenance team and drivers. This role not only emphasizes technical skills but also leadership, as the supervisor will guide the mechanics and technicians in their daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily maintenance and repair activities for all company vehicles, ensuring that each vehicle meets safety and operational standards.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance and inspections to reduce the likelihood of breakdowns and operational disruptions, thereby enhancing fleet reliability.
  • Assign specific tasks to mechanics and technicians, while closely monitoring the quality of their work and adherence to timelines.
  • Maintain detailed records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, and service schedules to facilitate effective fleet management and compliance audits.
  • Ensure the company adheres to all relevant safety standards, traffic regulations, and internal policies to foster a safe working environment.
  • Coordinate with the Fleet Manager regarding vehicle acquisitions, disposals, and upgrades to optimize fleet capability and efficiency.
  • Diagnose recurring vehicle issues and implement effective solutions to enhance the reliability and performance of the fleet.
  • Manage the inventory of spare parts, ensuring sufficient stock for both scheduled and emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Train and mentor maintenance staff, fostering their technical skills and promoting safety awareness within the team.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on fleet performance, including downtime and maintenance costs, to inform management decisions and strategies.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, providing a solid foundation for understanding vehicle systems.
  • At least three years of experience in fleet management or vehicle maintenance, demonstrating a strong background in the industry.
  • Proficient understanding of vehicle maintenance practices, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance in the transport sector.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team of mechanics and technicians.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage schedules, paperwork, and inventory, ensuring operations run smoothly.
