About the Role

The Credit Operations Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the credit operations within the Masaka Corridor for Zembo, a pioneering company in the e-mobility sector in Africa. This position is vital for ensuring that customer vetting and onboarding processes are efficient and that the quality of the credit portfolio is maintained. In the first few months, you will engage directly with customers, conducting verifications and facilitating motorcycle handovers while collaborating with various departments to support the company’s mission of providing sustainable mobility solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will review customer applications and supporting documents to ensure all submitted information is complete and accurate, which is pivotal for the onboarding process.
  • Your role will include conducting field and telephone verifications to confirm the identity, residence, and repayment capacity of applicants, which helps mitigate risks associated with lending.
  • You will be responsible for assessing applicants against the company’s established vetting criteria and escalating any high-risk or incomplete applications for further review.
  • As part of customer onboarding, you will explain loan obligations and repayment schedules, ensuring that customers understand the terms before receiving their motorcycles.
  • Following up on overdue repayments will be a key part of your duties, requiring you to engage with customers through phone calls and field visits to encourage timely payment.
  • In the event of default, you will coordinate with local authorities and community leaders to recover motorcycles, ensuring that all actions comply with company policies and legal standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is typically required for this role.
  • Experience in credit operations, collections, or customer service within the financial sector is highly advantageous, ideally spanning 2-3 years.
  • Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be interacting with customers and internal teams regularly to resolve inquiries and issues.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for maintaining records and analyzing customer data is expected.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, alongside strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, are critical for success in this position.
