About the Role
The Health Manager position at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is crucial for managing the emergency response to the Ebola outbreak affecting West Nile Uganda. This role is pivotal in ensuring that health interventions are executed in alignment with national guidelines and global health standards, thereby safeguarding communities at risk. In the initial months, the Health Manager will immerse themselves in local health systems, work closely with various health authorities, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders to enhance the region’s capacity to respond to health emergencies. This role not only impacts immediate health outcomes but also contributes to long-term community resilience against future health threats.
Key Responsibilities
- The Health Manager will oversee the planning and execution of Ebola response activities, ensuring that they meet the stringent guidelines set by the Ministry of Health and adhere to international standards.
- Coordination with local health authorities and community leaders will be essential, ensuring that IRC’s efforts are integrated into existing health frameworks for maximum effectiveness.
- Regular monitoring and evaluation of health programs will be conducted to assess their impact and adapt strategies as necessary to improve health outcomes.
- The role will require the Health Manager to provide technical guidance and support to health teams, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and resources to implement effective health interventions.
- Facilitating training sessions on infection prevention and control (IPC) will be a key responsibility, empowering health workers in the field to manage cases effectively and safely.
- The Health Manager will also be responsible for compiling and reporting data on health outcomes and program effectiveness to IRC leadership and external partners, aiding in transparency and accountability.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree in Public Health, Nursing, or a related field is essential, with a preference for candidates holding a master’s degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in health program management, particularly in emergency settings or infectious disease response, is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies will be necessary for effective program planning and execution.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are crucial, enabling collaboration with diverse stakeholders including government officials, community leaders, and non-governmental organizations.
- Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to humanitarian principles and possess a deep understanding of the public health landscape in Uganda.
