About the Role
The Senior Programme Officer (ITC Team Lead, Trade for Jobs Uganda) plays a vital role in enhancing trade-led economic development in Uganda, focusing particularly on creating decent job opportunities for the underprivileged. This position exists within the International Trade Centre (ITC) to spearhead the Trade for Jobs Uganda initiative, a collaborative project aimed at bolstering the dairy and tourism sectors. During the first few months, the successful candidate will engage with stakeholders, assess current challenges faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and lay the groundwork for impactful programmes that foster sustainable economic growth.
Key Responsibilities
- The Senior Programme Officer will design, implement, and evaluate programmes aimed at improving trade activities within the dairy and tourism sectors.
- Monitor and analyze ongoing programme/project developments, ensuring alignment with national objectives as outlined in Uganda’s National Development Plan.
- Prepare and review reports and relevant documentation to identify challenges and propose corrective actions that enhance programme effectiveness.
- Collaborate closely with the Project Coordinator in Geneva to ensure consistent communication and coordination of activities across different regions.
- Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies and private sector partners, to promote the project’s objectives and gather insights for improvement.
- Lead efforts to enhance the competitiveness of MSMEs through targeted interventions aimed at value addition and diversification.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in project management, particularly within trade or economic development sectors.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of market systems approaches and their application in developing economies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
- A degree in Business Administration, Economics, International Development, or a related field is preferred.
