About the Role

The Program Officer position at Transparency Uganda is a critical role focused on collecting Universal Basic Income (UBI) data in targeted districts. This position plays a significant part in understanding the socio-economic landscape, which is essential for informed policy-making. In the first few months, you will engage closely with local communities, attend comprehensive training sessions, and develop a deep understanding of the data collection process. Your work will directly contribute to the organization’s mission of promoting transparency and accountability in Uganda.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for collecting accurate UBI data from residents in the designated districts, ensuring that the information gathered is reliable and representative.
  • Engaging with community members will be a key part of your role, requiring you to effectively communicate the purpose and importance of the research.
  • Your duties will include conducting interviews and surveys, which will require you to be well-versed in both English and the local languages of the area.
  • You will also need to manage and organize data collected through your smartphone, ensuring that all information is recorded systematically.
  • As a Program Officer, you will participate in pre-research training sessions to familiarize yourself with the research methodologies and techniques.
  • Furthermore, you will be expected to collaborate with local leaders and authorities, fostering relationships that will aid in smooth data collection operations.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A minimum of a diploma in a relevant field such as social sciences, statistics, or research methodologies is required for this role.
  • Applicants must be residents of the target district to ensure familiarity with the local context and community.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and the local language are essential to effectively engage with participants and gather accurate data.
  • Possession of a smartphone is mandatory for coordination purposes and for conducting research efficiently.
  • Applicants should be physically available throughout the research duration, including attending preliminary training sessions prior to data collection.
