About the Role

The Swimming Instructor position at Amentum is a pivotal role that ensures the safety and enjoyment of all pool users while promoting swimming skills and water safety. This role is crucial in providing high-quality swimming instruction and maintaining a safe aquatic environment. In the initial months, the instructor will familiarize themselves with the facility’s operations, safety protocols, and the specific needs of patrons. Daily tasks will include conducting swimming lessons, monitoring pool conditions, and engaging with swimmers to foster a supportive learning atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

• The Swimming Instructor will operate and maintain the swimming pool, adhering strictly to Navy guidelines and safety protocols, ensuring a safe environment for all users.
• Regularly monitor and maintain water quality and cleanliness through diligent inspections and appropriate maintenance procedures to comply with health standards.
• Conduct swimming lessons tailored to individuals or groups, focusing on fundamental swimming techniques, water safety awareness, and skill enhancement.
• Supervise swimmers at all times to prevent accidents, providing immediate lifesaving interventions when required, ensuring the safety of all patrons.
• Educate pool users on essential safety protocols, including emergency response actions and proper behavior to cultivate a safe swimming culture.
• Assist in the planning and execution of pool events, such as swimming competitions or training sessions, to meet the demands of the community and enhance engagement.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A valid certification as a Swimming Instructor from a recognized organization such as the American Red Cross or YMCA is mandatory for this role.
• At least one year of experience in swimming instruction or lifeguarding is essential to ensure adequate expertise in the field.
• Candidates should possess a thorough understanding of swimming pool operations, including safety protocols and maintenance procedures.
• Strong communication skills are crucial, as the instructor must effectively teach various skill levels with patience and professionalism.
• The ability to successfully complete and maintain all required training and certifications, including CPR, AED, First Aid, and other safety trainings, is essential for this position.
