About the Role

The WASH Specialist (P-3) position at UNICEF Uganda is critical for advancing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) initiatives within the country. This role focuses on managing and supporting the KOICA-funded climate-resilient WASH programme in Karamoja, ensuring that children and communities have access to safe, inclusive, and sustainable WASH services. In the initial months, the WASH Specialist will engage with various stakeholders, including government officials and local partners, to design and implement effective WASH strategies. You will play an essential role in monitoring progress and ensuring alignment with national priorities in WASH and climate action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop evidence-based WASH and climate programmes that respond to the specific needs of communities, particularly in vulnerable areas like Karamoja.
  • Manage and monitor the implementation of WASH programmes, ensuring the delivery of results-based outcomes while tracking resources effectively.
  • Provide technical guidance and operational support to UNICEF teams and partners, addressing any challenges that arise during programme implementation.
  • Facilitate humanitarian preparedness and response efforts related to WASH, ensuring that emergency interventions are timely and effective.
  • Collaborate with local and national government entities to strengthen capacities for WASH service delivery and enhance sustainability.
  • Generate and analyze data to inform decision-making, improve programme visibility, and ensure accountability to donors and stakeholders.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, or a related field is essential for this role.
  • At least five years of professional experience in WASH programme management, particularly in developing countries.
  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate with government, NGOs, and community-based organizations to implement WASH initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in monitoring and evaluation methodologies relevant to WASH and climate interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey ideas and foster teamwork.
