About the Role

The Data Engineer position at TicVac-U is integral to advancing Uganda’s agricultural resilience through innovative tick-borne disease solutions. This role is crucial for developing and maintaining the data infrastructure that supports vaccine research and clinical studies, ultimately contributing to improved livestock health and food security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement data pipelines to support vaccine research, clinical trials, and production monitoring.
  • Collect and clean raw data from laboratory instruments, LIMS, and ERP systems.
  • Manage ETL processes to ensure efficient data integration from various sources.
  • Develop and optimize data models and warehousing solutions for reliable data access.
  • Document data architectures and improve data quality by partnering with stakeholders.
  • Support analytics initiatives to inform scientific research and strategic business decisions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in Data Engineering and Data Warehousing to build scalable data systems.
  • Proficient in Data Modelling and ETL processes for efficient data management.
  • Solid skills in Data Analytics for operational reporting and research insights.
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python or Java.
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and familiarity with data integration tools.
  • Understanding of data security and governance best practices in research settings.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related fields.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical team members.
  • Experience in scientific, healthcare, or agricultural research environments is a plus.
