About the Role
The Study Runner position at Makerere University plays a vital role within the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), a leading center for research and training aimed at combating infectious diseases. This position is essential for ensuring that participant charts and study-related documents are efficiently managed and delivered, which directly supports ongoing research efforts. In the first few months, the Study Runner will become familiar with the procedures for retrieving and returning participant files, while collaborating closely with the records officer and other research team members. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful research that enhances health outcomes and may lead to further responsibilities within clinical studies.
Key Responsibilities
- The Study Runner will collaborate with the records officer to access and retrieve study participant charts from the IDI records office in Mulago, ensuring timely availability of essential data for ongoing research.
- In addition, the role requires the retrieval of archived study participant files from the store in Ntinda, which is critical for longitudinal studies and participant follow-up.
- It is the responsibility of the Study Runner to ensure that all participant charts are returned promptly to either the medical records office or the storage facility after use, maintaining the integrity of the study’s documentation.
- Additionally, assisting in the delivery of study documents, such as consent forms and patient reimbursement materials, will be a key part of the daily tasks.
- The Study Runner may also be tasked with other reasonable duties assigned by the Medical Officer or Principal Investigator, contributing to a well-rounded experience in a research environment.
- Throughout the role, maintaining a high level of organization and accuracy in all tasks is essential to support the research team’s objectives effectively.
Requirements & Qualifications
- The ideal candidate should possess at least a Uganda Certificate of Education, showcasing their foundational academic qualifications.
- Prior experience in similar roles within a research study or clinical trial setting is advantageous and will be beneficial for understanding the nuances of the position.
- Speed and accuracy in task execution are paramount, ensuring that all responsibilities are completed efficiently and without error.
