About the Role
The Country Director for GiveDirectly in Uganda will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the Uganda country office. This position is essential for the successful implementation of cash transfer programs, which directly support those living in poverty. In the initial months, the Country Director will focus on building strong relationships with team members and stakeholders, ensuring the alignment of the Uganda Country Strategy with GiveDirectly’s broader mission. This role not only influences the efficiency of programs but also impacts the lives of recipients across Uganda, making it a meaningful opportunity for those committed to social change.
Key Responsibilities
- The Country Director will oversee the timely and efficient operation of all GiveDirectly Uganda programs, ensuring they meet the organization’s quality standards.
- They will guide and support the programs team in navigating challenges, maintaining schedules, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality results.
- Accountability for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to recipient experiences and operational efficiency will be a primary responsibility.
- Managing the budget effectively will ensure that donor funds are allocated and utilized in an efficient manner.
- The Director will collaborate with national and local government officials to secure necessary permissions for program maintenance and expansion.
- Establishing a robust culture of safeguarding and anti-fraud within the country office will be essential, requiring close collaboration with global teams to create best practices.
- Proactively identifying and mitigating risks related to fraud and operational issues through coordination with the Internal Audit team is a critical part of this role.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in program management or leadership roles within the NGO or development sector is required.
- Proven track record of successful fundraising and partnership development with various stakeholders, including government agencies and private foundations.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and develop effective strategies for improvement.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively represent GiveDirectly to diverse audiences.
- Ability to travel regularly within Uganda and occasionally internationally, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to the mission.
