About the Role
Odixcity Consulting is on the lookout for a detail-oriented Remote Medical Coder to enhance our healthcare team. This critical role exists to ensure that patient medical records are accurately coded, thereby facilitating compliance and reimbursement processes. In the first few months, you will immerse yourself in understanding our coding standards, reviewing diverse medical records, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to clarify documentation discrepancies. Your contributions will be vital in optimizing revenue cycle management and maintaining our commitment to quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- You will meticulously review and analyze patient medical records, including operative reports and discharge summaries, to assign the correct ICD-10, CPT, or OPCS-4 codes.
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and NHS/Insurance payer guidelines will be a key part of your role, safeguarding accurate revenue cycle management.
- Identifying discrepancies or missing information in clinical documentation will require you to engage with physicians and clinical staff for necessary clarifications.
- You will take charge of correcting coding errors and resolving claim denials to prevent potential revenue loss, thus supporting the financial health of the organization.
- Maintaining high accuracy in coding is crucial, and you will participate in audits to uphold quality standards.
- Staying updated on changes in coding guidelines and compliance regulations will be essential to ensure our practices remain current and effective.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in hospital medical coding (either inpatient or outpatient) in the US or UK is required.
- Active certification from AAPC or AHIMA (such as CPC, CCS, CIC, COC) or a recognized UK equivalent is essential for this position.
- Strong knowledge and command of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology are necessary to perform effectively in this role.
- Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, such as Epic, Cerner, EMIS Web, or SystmOne, is highly desirable.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills are critical, as you will need to identify patterns and inconsistencies in medical records.
- Candidates must have a modern computer capable of running secure remote desktop applications and a stable, high-speed internet connection.
- A backup power supply (such as a UPS or generator) is mandatory to ensure uninterrupted operation during power outages.
- Your working environment must be a quiet and secure space that complies with HIPAA/GDPR regulations to safeguard patient confidentiality.
