About the Role

Odixcity Consulting is on the lookout for a meticulous Remote Medical Coder to enhance their dynamic healthcare team. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy of patient records by applying appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes based on established coding standards from the US or UK. In the first few months, you can expect to immerse yourself in reviewing complex patient documentation and collaborating with clinical staff to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Your contributions will be fundamental in optimizing reimbursement processes and maintaining data integrity within the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze patient medical records, including operative reports and discharge summaries, to accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, or OPCS-4 codes.
  • Ensure all coding practices align with federal, state, and NHS/Insurance payer-specific guidelines to facilitate effective revenue cycle management.
  • Identify any discrepancies or missing information in clinical documentation, proactively querying physicians or clinical staff for clarification as needed.
  • Optimize reimbursement by correcting coding errors and resolving claim denials that could lead to revenue loss.
  • Maintain high levels of accuracy in coding, adhering to established quality standards and actively participating in regular audits.
  • Stay informed about updates and changes to coding guidelines and compliance regulations to ensure ongoing accuracy and adherence to best practices.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in hospital medical coding, either Inpatient or Outpatient, specifically within the US or UK healthcare systems.
  • Candidates must hold an active certification from AAPC or AHIMA, such as CPC, CCS, CIC, or COC, or a recognized equivalent certification from the UK.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology is essential for effective coding and documentation.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Epic, Cerner, EMIS Web, or SystmOne is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with a proven ability to identify patterns and discrepancies in complex medical documentation.
  • Applicants must possess a modern computer system running on Windows 10/11 or macOS 12+, with reliable high-speed internet access.
  • A stable backup power supply, such as a UPS or generator, is mandatory to ensure uninterrupted work during power outages.
