The Director of People and Culture for Trees for the Future (TREES) plays a crucial role in shaping the organization’s workforce in Uganda. This position is essential for fostering a high-performance culture that aligns with TREES’ mission to empower farmers through sustainable practices. Over the first few months, the successful candidate will immerse themselves in the local context, understanding the unique challenges and opportunities for the team and farmers alike. They will lead initiatives that strengthen talent management and compliance, ensuring that TREES maintains its commitment to operational excellence. Additionally, the Director will work closely with the Global People and Culture team to adapt global strategies to local needs, fostering a cohesive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the principal People and Culture leader for TREES in Uganda, providing strategic oversight on all human resource matters to enhance program impact.
Shape a work environment that upholds TREES’ core values, encouraging staff to excel in delivering the organization’s mission effectively.
Act as a key advisor to the Country Director and Management Team, offering insights on organizational structure, workforce planning, and compliance with local laws.
Adapt and implement global People and Culture strategies, ensuring they are relevant and legally compliant within the Ugandan context.
Lead and mentor the People and Culture functions team in Uganda, promoting strong capabilities and clear accountability within the department.
Collaborate with Global People and Culture and Finance teams to ensure effective governance and alignment across operational practices.
Requirements & Qualifications
A minimum of 7 years of experience in human resources, with a focus on strategic leadership and organizational development.
Proven ability to translate global HR strategies into effective local practices, enhancing employee engagement and satisfaction.
Strong understanding of Ugandan labor laws and compliance requirements, ensuring that all HR practices meet legal standards.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
Experience in managing teams and developing talent, with a focus on fostering a positive workplace culture.
