About the Role

The Human Resources Officer at Alight plays a vital role in supporting the organization’s mission to assist displaced communities across Uganda. This position is essential for fostering a work environment that emphasizes dignity, choice, and respect for the lived experiences of those served by Alight. In the first few months, the HR Officer will engage in onboarding new staff, facilitating training programs, and implementing HR policies that align with the organization’s humanitarian goals. This role also involves regular field visits to understand the needs of employees and the communities they serve, ensuring that the HR practices are effective and culturally sensitive.

Key Responsibilities

  • The HR Officer will manage the recruitment process by creating job postings, screening applicants, and coordinating interviews to ensure a diverse and qualified applicant pool.
  • They will conduct orientation sessions for new hires to familiarize them with Alight’s mission, values, and operational procedures, fostering a sense of belonging from day one.
  • The officer will be responsible for maintaining employee records, ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date to comply with legal and organizational standards.
  • Regularly evaluating employee performance and providing constructive feedback will be a key task, helping to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • The HR Officer will assist in the development and implementation of training programs that address skill gaps and enhance employee capabilities, contributing to overall team effectiveness.
  • They will collaborate with management to resolve employee relations issues, ensuring a harmonious workplace that aligns with Alight’s values and mission.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field is required to ensure a solid foundation in HR principles.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in human resources, preferably within the humanitarian or non-profit sector, to bring relevant industry insights.
  • Strong knowledge of Ugandan labor laws and regulations is essential for compliance and to guide management on HR-related matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to effectively interact with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in HR software and MS Office applications will be required to manage employee data and create reports efficiently.
