About the Role
Stitchtherapyug is on a mission to expand its handmade crafts production, making it an exciting time to join as a Knitting Assistant. This full-time position, based in Kampala, offers individuals the chance to immerse themselves in Uganda’s vibrant artisan sector. The role is crucial for supporting the creation of quality knitted products that cater to both local and regional markets. Over the first few months, successful candidates will work closely with experienced artisans, gaining hands-on experience and developing their knitting and crochet skills. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior knitters in the production of handmade garments and accessories, ensuring adherence to specified patterns and quality standards.
- Learn and apply a variety of knitting and crochet techniques under the mentorship of experienced artisans to enhance your skill set.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation, ensuring that tools and materials are properly stored after each use for optimal efficiency.
- Monitor inventory levels of yarn and promptly report any shortages to supervisors to prevent disruptions in the production schedule.
- Participate in quality control measures by inspecting finished items to ensure consistency in stitch tension and overall appearance.
- Adhere to safety protocols when using knitting needles, scissors, and other craft tools to ensure a safe working environment.
- Attend regular training sessions to learn new patterns, stitches, and finishing techniques that are relevant to the product lines being produced.
- Collaborate with your team to meet daily production targets while maintaining a keen attention to detail in all assigned tasks.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A genuine passion for handmade crafts, with a strong desire to develop skills in knitting and crochet.
- The ability to learn quickly and adapt to new techniques after demonstrations, showcasing a willingness to grow.
- Demonstrated reliability and responsibility in previous roles, with an ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Residence in Kampala, preferably along Entebbe Road, to ensure punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Availability to commit to regular production hours as dictated by the workshop’s schedule.
- Prior experience in knitting or crochet, even at a basic level, is an advantage, indicating familiarity with yarn handling.
- Completion of vocational training in textiles, crafts, or related creative fields is desirable but not mandatory.
- Basic numeracy skills are essential for counting stitches, measuring lengths, and following numerical patterns accurately.
