The Project Officer – Livelihoods for the DRIVE Project at ZOA Uganda plays a vital role in enhancing food security and improving livelihoods in the West Nile region. This position focuses on the day-to-day planning and implementation of project activities in Terego and Madi Okollo districts. The role is crucial for mobilizing and training farmers in the Participatory Integrated Plan (PIP) approach, ensuring that agricultural practices are both sustainable and profitable. In the initial months, the Project Officer will engage with local farmers, facilitate training sessions, and establish linkages with markets to foster community resilience and economic stability.
Key Responsibilities
The Project Officer will implement project activities according to the project document, ensuring that all outputs and outcomes align with ZOA and donor procedures.
Facilitating capacity-building events will be a core duty, which includes conducting trainings on PIP methodology and technical skills relevant to sustainable agriculture.
Support the step-by-step creation and execution of PIPs by farmers, working closely within the community to enhance their agricultural practices.
Supervise the development of high-quality experimental plots or Integrated Plot Plans (IPPs) that serve as educational resources for local farmers.
Document and share learning experiences among PIP farmers, particularly focusing on the outcomes of experimental plots to inform future practices.
Facilitate the formation of farmer groups, enhancing their institutional capacities and establishing productive market linkages.
Provide ongoing technical support, both remotely and in-person, to ensure the successful implementation and management of PIP plots and facilitate market connections.
Requirements & Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Extension, Development Studies, or a related field is essential for this position.
At least 2 years of experience in project implementation, particularly in livelihoods or agricultural development settings, is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of community mobilization techniques and participatory approaches to farming is crucial.
Strong communication skills are necessary to effectively engage with farmers and stakeholders, facilitating productive training sessions.
Proficiency in using ICT tools for agricultural extension services will be beneficial for implementing modern farming techniques.
