About the Role
The Grounds Crew Leader at Amentum plays a critical role in maintaining the aesthetic and operational standards of grounds in support of a unique US Navy program on Diego Garcia. This position is essential for ensuring that the environment is not only visually appealing but also functional and safe. In the first few months, you will be immersed in understanding the specific maintenance needs of the grounds and operational areas, while also getting to know your team. You will lead a dedicated crew, focusing on effective communication and adherence to safety protocols, all while enhancing your leadership skills in a dynamic work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage a team of grounds crew members, ensuring high-quality maintenance of improved grounds and operational areas to create a visually appealing environment.
- Develop and implement detailed schedules for routine grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing, trimming, and planting, to maintain landscaped areas effectively.
- Conduct regular inspections of stormwater drainage systems and address any issues such as debris and blockages to ensure smooth operation.
- Respond to service orders promptly, ensuring that all maintenance tasks are completed according to established standards and requirements.
- Utilize a variety of landscaping equipment, including mowers and blowers, while adhering to safety practices to minimize risks.
- Coordinate the maintenance and repair of landscaping tools and equipment, ensuring they are in optimal working condition to reduce downtime.
- Monitor the overall condition of the grounds, identifying areas that require enhancement or repair to maintain compliance with visual standards.
- Train and mentor grounds crew members on effective equipment use, safety protocols, and maintenance procedures to foster a skilled team.
- Communicate effectively with project managers and stakeholders regarding work progress and any service order updates.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with contract obligations and supporting reporting requirements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping, with at least one year in a supervisory capacity demonstrating leadership abilities.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required, showcasing foundational education necessary for understanding the role.
- Hands-on experience with landscaping techniques and equipment is essential for effective management of maintenance tasks.
- Strong communication skills are necessary to liaise with team members and project stakeholders effectively.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental practices is crucial to ensure compliance and promote a safe work environment.
