About the Role

The East and Southern Africa (ESA) Technical Coordinator position at Action Against Hunger is pivotal in advancing community-led solutions for adolescent health and nutrition throughout the region. This role is essential for integrating health initiatives within broader food security and resilience programs. In the first few months, the coordinator will engage with local organizations, evaluate current capacities, and foster partnerships to ensure effective program implementation. The position also involves translating program evidence into actionable policies, which is crucial for long-term health improvements. By working closely with diverse stakeholders, including government bodies and civil society organizations, the coordinator will help shape public health strategies that address the root causes of malnutrition.

Key Responsibilities

• The ESA Technical Coordinator will coordinate technical inputs and provide implementation support for adolescent health and nutrition activities across East and Southern Africa.
• Support nutrition-sensitive approaches by integrating health considerations into agriculture, livelihoods, school nutrition, maternal and child health, and water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives.
• Conduct assessments of partner organizations to evaluate their capacity and provide customized mentoring, coaching, and training aimed at enhancing program design and execution.
• Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of data, utilizing monitoring, evaluation, and learning findings to inform and improve program strategies.
• Translate research and program evidence into impactful policy briefs, educational materials, and other resources that facilitate informed decision-making.
• Engage with government and development partners to promote the integration of adolescent health and nutrition into national policies and systems.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or a related field is essential for this role.
• At least 5 years of experience in public health or nutrition, particularly in a development context, is required.
• Proven ability to manage and coordinate technical programs effectively, especially in resource-constrained environments.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary for engaging with a range of stakeholders, including local communities and government officials.
• Experience in monitoring and evaluation practices, including data collection and analysis, will be highly beneficial.
