About the Role

The Head of Risk at FINCA Uganda plays a crucial role in safeguarding the organization against various financial risks, ensuring that the bank operates responsibly and sustainably. This position is vital for establishing a robust enterprise-wide risk management framework, which will guide the organization in navigating complex financial landscapes. In the first few months, the successful candidate will focus on assessing existing risk management practices, implementing necessary improvements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to foster a culture of risk awareness throughout the organization. This role is not only about compliance but also about supporting strategic decision-making to promote growth and stability within the bank.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management framework that addresses strategic, operational, market, liquidity, reputational, credit, and compliance risks across the organization.
• Conduct thorough assessments of the current risk management practices and recommend necessary enhancements to align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare and present Key Risk Indicator (KRI) reports that provide insights into both financial and non-financial risks to the Board Risk Committee and Executive Committee.
• Oversee the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process, ensuring that it is effectively integrated into the organization’s operations.
• Lead the development and dissemination of updated risk management policies, ensuring that all staff are aware of and understand their roles in risk management.
• Motivate and manage the Risk Management and Internal Controls Department, fostering a high-performing team through appropriate training and development initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master’s degree or professional certification in risk management is preferred.
• At least 5-7 years of experience in risk management, internal audit, or compliance within the financial services sector.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data to inform strategic decisions.
• Excellent leadership skills with a proven track record of managing teams and driving organizational change.
• In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in risk management applicable to the banking sector.
