About the Role

ACCEL Schools is looking for a dedicated 1:1 Instructional Aide to join the team at Sagewood STEAM Academy, a public charter school focused on providing a rich educational experience for EK-8 students in the Central Point, Franklinton, and Hilltop neighborhoods of Columbus, Ohio. This role is pivotal in supporting teachers and enhancing student learning by assisting with classroom activities and promoting positive behaviors. In your first few months, you will engage closely with students, helping them navigate their academic and extracurricular journeys, while fostering a safe and inclusive classroom environment. Your contributions will directly impact the school community, making a difference in the lives of students and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will provide support during lessons by assisting individual students or groups based on instructional plans outlined by the Teacher or School Leader, ensuring that each student receives personalized attention to enhance their learning experience.
  • In collaboration with the Teacher, you will help plan and organize classroom activities, which are essential for creating an engaging and interactive learning environment.
  • Your role will include assisting with various school events, such as parent-faculty nights and assemblies, allowing you to build strong relationships with parents and the broader school community.
  • Clerical duties such as grading papers and making copies will also be part of your responsibilities, enabling you to support the administrative side of teaching effectively.
  • You will assist the Teacher in integrating and utilizing classroom technology, which is essential for modern educational practices and student engagement.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in classrooms and other school areas will be part of your duties, contributing to a positive and healthy learning environment for students.
  • As a vital member of the school team, you will embrace and implement the school’s philosophy and mission statement in all your activities, ensuring alignment with the institution’s goals.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A minimum of an Associate degree or two years of college coursework is required, or successful passage of the Paraprofessional’s Exam, reflecting your commitment to educational standards.
  • Proficiency in MS Office is essential, as it equips you with the necessary skills to handle various administrative tasks efficiently.
  • Successful completion of a BCI/FBI background check is mandatory, ensuring a safe environment for all students.
  • You should possess the ability to meet educational standards and adapt to the evolving needs of the classroom.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well under pressure are crucial, allowing you to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Understanding and managing confidential information with discretion is necessary, as you will be privy to sensitive student and family data.
