About the Role

The Northland School Division is seeking a Temporary Vice Principal for Father R. Perin School, a vital educational institution in the community of Janvier, Alberta. This role is essential in promoting educational success for Indigenous learners by fostering a culturally rich learning environment. In the first few months, you will immerse yourself in the school’s community, building relationships with students, staff, and families. Your leadership will focus on enhancing literacy and language programs while ensuring that the educational experiences provided are of high quality and culturally relevant. This opportunity not only contributes significantly to student development but also to the broader goals of the Division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote educational success for Indigenous learners by integrating their language and culture into the curriculum and school activities.
  • Collaborate closely with the school council and community members to cultivate an inviting school environment that reflects local values and traditions.
  • Actively seek partnerships with community organizations to create innovative programs that engage and inspire students.
  • Serve as an instructional leader, working alongside teachers to ensure that students receive high-quality learning experiences tailored to their needs.
  • Lead by example in community involvement, demonstrating commitment to the school’s mission and values.
  • Evaluate educational programs and initiatives to ensure they align with the Division’s goals and promote continuous improvement.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold or be eligible for Alberta teaching certification along with a Leadership Quality Standard certificate.
  • A Master’s degree in Education is required, or the willingness to complete one within an agreed timeline.
  • Applicants should have at least five years of successful teaching experience, particularly in rural or Indigenous communities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively build relationships with students, staff, and the broader community.
  • Experience in developing and implementing educational programs that support Indigenous languages and cultures is highly desirable.
