About the Role

The Architect position at Scientific Research Corporation in Kampala, Uganda, is a pivotal role that focuses on overseeing the architectural integrity and construction quality of significant projects. With an emphasis on the U.S. standards of construction, this role ensures that the contractor adheres to contract requirements while providing critical insights during the design and construction phases. In the first few months, you will engage in hands-on inspections and collaborate closely with the project team, gaining exposure to the intricacies of architectural renovation and construction management. Your expertise will play a crucial role in maintaining quality assurance and facilitating successful project completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will ensure that the contractor performs the required work in strict accordance with the established contract requirements, maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Your role will involve reviewing and interpreting design and construction documents, such as drawings and specifications, to ensure compliance with architectural standards.
  • Onsite observation of construction activities will be essential, as you will assess whether construction elements are installed and executed correctly, identifying any potential issues.
  • Performing quality assurance tasks will be part of your responsibilities, which includes ensuring that the contractor’s work is thoroughly inspected and that necessary corrective actions are taken.
  • You will monitor the construction contractor’s quality control and safety programs, providing recommendations based on your observations and technical reviews.
  • Regularly submitting weekly progress reports, you will detail findings from both field inspections and document reviews, offering insights to the project management team.
  • Conducting technical inspections of architectural elements will allow you to document construction progress while identifying problems or discrepancies with design specifications.
  • Additionally, you will review shop drawings and material submittals from the contractor to ensure they comply with project requirements and coordinate with other disciplines as necessary.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in construction projects of similar scope and complexity, with a focus on architectural integrity.
  • Demonstrated experience in historical architectural renovation is highly desirable, showcasing your ability to manage complex architectural challenges.
  • Overseas experience is preferred, as it provides a broader perspective on international architectural standards and practices.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and interpreting technical documents, including architectural drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Strong analytical skills to monitor construction progress and quality, coupled with effective communication abilities for teamwork and reporting.
