About the Role

As the Human Resource Manager at Building Tomorrow, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s workforce and culture. This position is crucial for fostering an environment that empowers employees to deliver impactful educational programs across Uganda. Your first few months will involve assessing existing HR systems, engaging with staff to understand their needs, and developing strategies that align with the organization’s core values. You will collaborate closely with the Director of Operations to ensure that HR practices not only comply with legal requirements but also enhance employee satisfaction and retention.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will spearhead the formulation and execution of Building Tomorrow’s Human Resource strategy, ensuring that it aligns seamlessly with the organization’s mission and values.
  • Your oversight will cover the entire employee lifecycle, which includes workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and performance management to ensure a talented and engaged workforce.
  • Providing strategic HR advice to leadership, you will help cultivate a high-performing culture that emphasizes inclusion and adherence to organizational values.
  • Ensuring compliance with Ugandan labor laws and donor requirements will be a key responsibility, as you monitor adherence to internal HR policies and safeguarding standards.
  • You will manage various HR operations, including payroll systems, benefits administration, leave management, and maintaining accurate employee records.
  • Leading capacity-building initiatives, you will develop and implement training programs aimed at enhancing leadership skills and overall performance within the organization.
  • Promoting positive employee relations and workplace well-being will be essential, as you facilitate conflict resolution and support continuous organizational improvement.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field is required, with a master’s degree being an added advantage.
  • At least five years of progressive experience in human resources management, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Ugandan labor laws, HR best practices, and compliance requirements will be crucial for success in this role.
  • You should possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives that drive organizational effectiveness is highly desirable.
