The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is seeking two Internal Audit Graduate Trainees to support the internal audit department. The trainees will assist Internal Auditors, Senior Internal Auditors, and the Audit Manager in conducting audits of IDI projects, reviewing sub-grantee activities, assessing risks, and ensuring compliance with established financial and operational procedures.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the internal audit team in carrying out audit procedures in line with approved audit plans and programs.
  • Assist in collecting audit evidence, reviewing supporting documents, preparing working papers, analyzing data, and organizing audit files.
  • Help obtain relevant documentation required for internal audits and special audit assignments.
  • Participate in audit verification activities, including cash counts, inventory checks, fixed asset verification, and other compliance reviews.
  • Support internal audit risk assessments for potential sub-grantees and project partners.
  • Participate in audit field visits to project locations outside Kampala and provide necessary support during assessments.
  • Assist in preparing for audit opening and closing meetings with relevant stakeholders.
  • Support departmental meetings through preparation of minutes, documentation, and tracking of action items.
  • Provide general administrative and technical support to strengthen the effectiveness of the internal audit function.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting), Business Administration (Finance/Accounting), Economics, Business Statistics, or a related field.
  • Must have graduated within the past twelve (12) months.
  • Candidates should have not more than one (1) year of professional work experience.

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to adapt quickly, learn new concepts, and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and standard office tools.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, professional ethics, competence, and due care principles.
  • Basic knowledge of internal audit processes, procedures, and requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good analytical and organizational skills.
