About the Role

The Investment Specialist position at the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) in Kampala, Uganda is a pivotal role focused on enhancing the financial capacity of developing countries, particularly the least developed nations. This role is essential in facilitating capital flow to support sustainable development goals (SDGs) and addressing critical development challenges faced by vulnerable communities. In the initial months, you will engage closely with local and international partners, conducting thorough assessments of investment opportunities and developing financial structuring solutions tailored to specific needs. As part of a dynamic team, you will also contribute to strategies aimed at mobilizing resources and enhancing investment readiness for various projects aligned with the 2030 Agenda.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will conduct comprehensive analyses of financial landscapes to identify viable investment opportunities that align with UNCDF’s mission and strategic framework.
  • Collaborating with private sector stakeholders and development partners, you will design and implement innovative financing solutions to catalyze investments in SDG-related projects.
  • Your role will involve providing targeted technical and financial advisory services to enhance the investment capacity of local institutions and organizations.
  • You will lead efforts in financial de-risking, assessing potential risks associated with investments and developing strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Regularly monitoring and evaluating ongoing projects will be crucial, ensuring they remain aligned with development goals and adjusting strategies as necessary.
  • You will engage in capacity-building initiatives, training local partners on financial management practices to improve their project implementation capabilities.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, development studies, or a related field is required for this position.
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in investment analysis, development finance, or related areas is essential for candidates.
  • Strong understanding of financial instruments, investment structuring, and risk management practices is crucial for success in this role.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and financial modeling tools will greatly enhance your effectiveness in this position.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including government entities and private sector players.
