About the Role
The Science Officer – Research Integrity at the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology plays a crucial role in ensuring that research conducted within Uganda adheres to high standards of integrity and ethical conduct. This position is essential for fostering a culture of responsible research practices, which is vital for the advancement of Uganda’s science and technology sectors. In the initial months, the successful candidate will focus on familiarizing themselves with existing guidelines and standards while engaging with various institutions to assess their compliance. They will also be instrumental in creating awareness and training programs that promote research integrity across the board.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate the implementation of research integrity standards by developing and disseminating guidelines tailored to the Ugandan research context.
- Monitor adherence to these standards across various research institutions, providing support and guidance to ensure compliance.
- Conduct regular training sessions and workshops aimed at educating researchers and stakeholders about the importance of research integrity.
- Collaborate with other departments within the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology to promote a unified approach to research ethics.
- Assist in the development of policies that reinforce ethical standards in research practices within the science and technology ecosystem.
- Collect and analyze data on research integrity issues, reporting findings to stakeholders to inform policy and procedural improvements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, natural sciences, or public policy is essential for this role.
- Experience in research management or a related field is highly desirable, with a minimum of 3 years in a similar capacity.
- Strong understanding of ethical standards in research, including familiarity with national and international guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government bodies, academic institutions, and non-governmental organizations.
