  1. Job Overview
    This role focuses on managing employee benefits and payroll accounting in a large utility organization. You will ensure that staff salaries, allowances, pensions, and other benefits are calculated correctly and paid on time.

In real work terms, you will handle payroll accuracy, benefits reconciliation, and compliance with tax and labor laws. You will also work closely with HR and finance teams to ensure employee records and payments are correct and updated.

Your work directly supports employee trust and financial discipline in the organization. You will also lead a small team that supports payroll processing and reporting.

  1. Key Responsibilities
    You will manage accounting for employee benefits such as pensions, insurance, allowances, and related payroll items. You will ensure all entries are accurate and properly recorded in financial systems.

You will reconcile benefits accounts regularly to confirm that payments match company records and statutory requirements.

You will work with HR to update employee data in the payroll system and ensure all changes such as promotions, deductions, and new hires are correctly reflected.

You will supervise payroll accountants to ensure monthly payroll is processed on time and without errors.

You will review payroll reports and identify discrepancies before payments are finalized.

You will ensure compliance with tax laws, labor regulations, and internal financial policies.

You will support payroll budgeting and help analyze differences between planned and actual payroll costs.

You will prepare detailed reports on employee benefits and payroll expenses for management and regulators.

You will support internal and external audits by providing payroll and benefits records.

You will guide and mentor payroll staff to improve accuracy and performance.

You will identify process gaps and recommend improvements to reduce errors and improve efficiency.

You will support automation of payroll and benefits processes using financial systems and tools.

  1. Requirements and Qualifications
    You need a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

You must hold a professional qualification such as ICPAU or ACCA. This shows strong technical accounting competence.

You need experience working with payroll systems and financial ERP platforms.

You must have at least 5 years of experience in payroll management, benefits accounting, or financial accounting.

Experience in a utility or large organization is an added advantage.

You need strong knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and labor compliance requirements in Uganda.

You should understand financial reporting standards such as IPSAS.

You need strong skills in Excel and accounting systems for reporting and analysis.

You must have leadership experience in managing or supervising a finance team.

You should have strong attention to detail and ability to work under strict deadlines.

You need good communication skills to engage HR, auditors, and external regulators.

  1. Salary Range, Expected Range
    UGX 6,000,000 to UGX 14,000,000 per month

The range depends on experience, certification level, and exposure to large payroll systems in utilities or multinational organizations.
