About the Role

The Health Specialist position at Suyana Foundation presents a remarkable opportunity to enhance health initiatives in Uganda, a role crucial for fostering community empowerment through integrated development. The Health Specialist will collaborate with various local partners and stakeholders, ensuring that health programs align with national priorities and contribute significantly to community wellbeing. In the first few months, the successful candidate will engage in designing and implementing high-quality health programs, while also participating in capacity building and monitoring efforts. This role not only strengthens Suyana’s presence in Uganda but also contributes to the broader regional learning and collaboration efforts across East Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Health Specialist will work closely with local partners to design, implement, and refine health programs that meet community needs, ensuring they are aligned with Suyana’s integrated development approach.
  • You will conduct regular field visits to project sites to monitor health initiatives, gather feedback, and make data-driven recommendations to improve program effectiveness.
  • Engagement with community health actors and local authorities will be essential, as you facilitate discussions that foster collaboration and enhance the sustainability of health interventions.
  • Developing and delivering training sessions aimed at strengthening the capacity of local partners will be a key focus, helping to empower them to implement high-quality health services.
  • Your role will involve the preparation of reports and proposals, which will require you to synthesize findings from monitoring and evaluation activities to inform future programming.
  • Collaboration with Suyana’s Education and Livelihoods teams will ensure that health interventions are effectively integrated with other community development efforts, contributing to overall household resilience.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree in Public Health, Nursing, or a related field is essential, with a strong preference for candidates holding advanced qualifications.
  • At least three years of experience in health program management or implementation, particularly in a development or non-profit context.
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluation, including the ability to analyze data and translate it into actionable insights.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including local communities and government officials.
  • Fluency in both English and local languages is highly desirable, enhancing your ability to engage with community members and partners.
