About the Role

The Regional Policy and Advocacy Advisor at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the educational experiences of children affected by conflict and crisis in Uganda. This position is critical as it aims to elevate the importance of integrating play in educational systems, ensuring that children aged 3-12 receive the quality learning opportunities they deserve. In the initial months, you will engage with various stakeholders, assess the current educational landscape, and develop strategies to advocate for policy changes that support the goals of PlayMatters. Your efforts will directly contribute to strengthening educational frameworks while addressing the unique challenges faced by vulnerable populations in the region.

Key Responsibilities

• You will spearhead initiatives to raise awareness about the developmental needs of children in crisis-affected areas, ensuring that their voices are heard in policy discussions.
• Your role will involve collaborating with educational institutions, government bodies, and civil society organizations to promote the integration of Learning through Play (LtP) methodologies.
• Developing advocacy materials will be a key responsibility, as you create compelling narratives that highlight the importance of play in learning contexts.
• You will monitor and analyze regional education policies, providing insights and recommendations to enhance IRC’s advocacy efforts.
• Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders will be essential for influencing funding decisions and prioritizing educational initiatives.
• Finally, you will participate in regional and global forums to advocate for the educational needs of children, sharing best practices and representing IRC’s mission and values.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A strong educational background in policy, education, social sciences, or a related field is essential for this role.
• You should have at least 5 years of experience in advocacy, policy development, or education programming, particularly in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Exceptional communication skills are required, enabling you to effectively articulate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
• Proven experience in managing projects and working collaboratively with stakeholders from various sectors is crucial.
• Familiarity with the educational challenges faced by children in conflict and crisis contexts will significantly enhance your effectiveness in this role.
